| This Limited Edition Set Was Made in 1/4 Scale, and Consisted of Ten Pieces: Chemise: The chemise is made of cotton batiste that I tea-dyed to a soft tan color. The neckline is trimmed with natural colored crochet lace and is gathered up with an ivory ribbon tied in a bow. The sleeves are 3/4 length and the hem is accented with natural colored lace. The hem falls just past the knees and is finished with a decorative stitch. Stockings: The stockings are made of cotton Lycra knit that I tea dyed to a soft tan color. The stockings reach just above the knees and are accented with tiny ivory ribbon garters that are tied into bows. Stays: The stays (the 18th century word for a corset) are made of four layers of fabric. The basis is sewn inside two outer layers of cotton. The basis is made of cotton coutil and cotton batiste. The basis carries thirteen bones which have been secured so they can't bite their way out. The inner lining fabric is a tan cotton broadcloth and the outer face fabric is a cotton print with an African flair in red, tan, black and speckled with tea-dye marks. A very snug fit made possible by a back lacing of black satin ribbon and fourteen hand sewn eyelets in black thread down the back. The lacing is done in the traditional diagonal style. The top edge is trimmed in black silk taffeta bias. The shoulder straps are secured with two black satin ribbon bows looped through hand bound eyelets done in black thread. The bottom edge just covers the hips. Paniers: False hips, pocket hoops, or paniers, call them what you will, they are all the same thing! The pocket hoops are made of cotton blend seersucker fabric with stripes in ivory and brown which I tea dyed to soften the colors and create harmony with the other undergarments. Each pocket hoop section holds three rows of flexible boning inside sturdy casings. The waistband has ribbon ties in front and back. The function of the pocket hoop is to hold the skirt out and up on the sides. The pocket hoops have slits on both sides where a lady could reach in to grasp her belongings. The Panniers are tied in the front and the back right above the third row of boning to keep the silhouette from becoming too wide. Each bone has been rounded off to prevent it from biting it's way out. Petticoat: The petticoat is made of cotton batiste that I tea dyed. Open on both sides below the hip, allowing it to easily slip over the pocket hoops. The waistband has brown satin ribbon closures on both sides. The hem is decorated with a pinked and sewing machine embroidered cotton batiste trim that I made. The embroidery is in tan and brown. The petticoat falls at the ankles. Gown: The style of the gown was designed like an 18th century robe a L'anglaise, with a polonaise style back. The underskirt or petticoat of the gown is made of red silk habotai, a very light and silky fabric. The petticoat closes with a hook and eye in the back. The hem of the petticoat falls at the ankles in the front and the back. The over gown with bodice is made of silk dupioni in gold/rust. The fabric is iridescent and can flash red in the light. Slubby and rich in color and texture but very light. The bodice front has panels of printed cotton fabric in a mosaic design with colors of red, mustard, and black. The bodice closes in the front with 5 hooks and eyes. The bodice is trimmed with crinkled metallic silk organza in gold and red silk habotai. The strips of habotai were first decoratively stitched by machine in black. The edges of both trims have been "pinked". The sleeves are 3/4 length, and end with a ruffle of red & black pinked trim followed by a flounce of the crinkled gold silk. The center back of the gown was cut "en fourreau" or as one piece from neckline to hem and then pleated to fit. The back of the gown can be shown two ways, with the black satin ties undone it can be a long flowing train in back. With the black satin tied up it can be billowy a la polonaise. The bodice portion of the gown is lined with mustard colored rayon lining. ~The Accessories~ Jewelry: The necklace is made of 22k gold plated beads, black glass beads, real wood beads, and real ivory (bone) beads. Graduating in size from teeny tiny, to about 2mm in sizes. The center piece pendant is made of red glass, it has been carved with an "all seeing eye" design and painted with gold paint. The findings are made of 14k gold filled metal. The earrings are made of 14k gold filled metals and a real ivory bead drop. Shoes: The shoes are made of matching silk dupioni in gold/rust. They are lined with the same fabric, and the innersole is also made of the silk. The outer soles and lifts are made of faux leather in black. The heels have been cast one by one, sanded, shaped, and finally covered in matching fabric. The vamps are decorated with rust red silk habotai pinked trim edged with black stitching, and a tiny hand made tassel of brown thread is in the center. A Fortune Teller Doll: "Ask me your question, look to my skirts for the answer..." The fortune teller doll is entirely hand sewn. It is made of brown cotton and some of the red mosaic cotton for the bodice and sleeves. The face is sewn with embroidery floss in brown for the eyes, nose and "lashes" and rust for the lips. The hair is hand dyed wavy yarn in brown. The hair is tied back with a rust bow accented with a tiny wood bead. The neckline and cuffs are accented with natural crochet lace and a tiny wooden bead is added up front. A necklace of wood beads around the neck. The underskirt is a fortune game, entirely made of paper. Colored paper in tones to compliment the mosaic pattern of the cotton, and parchment colored paper with the words "Yes" or "No" are scattered throughout. Ask her a yes or no question, then pick a skirt piece to find your answer. A blank result means the outcome has not yet been determined. The over skirt is made of the gold/rust silk dupioni. Made to scale for a 16" doll, this miniature doll measures 3 1/2" long. A Djembe Drum: The little Djembe Drum was hand made in Ghana by artisans. Made of solid wood covered with a circle of leather and black thread netting. Hand painted with a design on both sides. The drum is not functional (it doesn't have any resonance) it's only decorative. I added a black leather cord to the drum so that it can be held or hung from the wrist. According to Wikipedia, the word Djembe translated literally means "everyone gather together". The djembe is said to contain three spirits: the spirit of the tree, the spirit of the animal of which the drum head is made, and the spirit of the instrument maker. In earlier times and still in some rural areas djembe were used to send messages over long distances. A Limited Edition of 4 The Mystic Collection is SOLD |
