| This Limited Edition Set Was Made in 1/4 Scale, and Consisted of Ten Pieces: Chemise: The Chemise is made of fine white cotton lawn. Tiny sleeves and a wide neckline. The hemline is accented with a decorative machine stitch. Super soft and delicate Stockings: The stockings are made of cotton Lycra knit in white. The stockings stop just above the knees and are accented with soft blue bows. Stays: The stays (the 18th century word for a corset) are made of four layers of fabric. The basis is sewn inside two outer layers of fabric. The basis is made of cotton coutil and cotton broadcloth. The basis carries thirteen bones which have been secured so they can't bite their way out. A very snug fit made possible by a back lacing of satin ribbon and fourteen hand sewn eyelets down the back. The top edge is trimmed with red silk bias. The shoulder straps are secured with two satin ribbon bows looped through hand sewn eyelets. The bottom edge just covers the hips. The outer fabric is a woven cotton fabric with a print of roses in faded red with a background of tan. The lining fabric is white cotton. Paniers: The paniers are made of white cotton. Flexible boning provides skirt shape and support. Each bone has been rounded off and sewn into study bone casing to prevent it from biting it's way out. A ribbon tie gathers it to the waist in front. Petticoat: The petticoat is made of white cotton. Open on one side, allowing it to easily slip over the paniers. The waistband has a red satin ribbon tie on one side. The hem is decorated with a pinked and gathered flounce. I decorated the flounce with five different decorative machine stitches in white and red. The petticoat ends above the ankles. A Gown: The underskirt or petticoat of the gown is made of pale blue silk dupioni. It is fully lined in pale blue silk habotai. The petticoat ends at the ankles and closes in the back with hooks and eyes. The over gown is designed in the "robe a l'anglaise" style from the 18th century. The gown is made of pale blue silk dupioni and it is lined in the bodice and sleeves with more pale blue silk habotai. The sleeves are full length and are a two-part sleeve with seams in front and back. The sleeve is decorated with a folded back cuff, an offset placket with three translucent glass sea green beads as "buttons", and white silk organza gathered trim. The sleeve ends with a hand made trim of white silk organza with three rows of blue satin ribbon sewn onto it, then it is pleated to fit the wrist. The center back of the over gown is cut "en fourreau", or as one from neckline to hem and then pleated to fit. The front of the bodice and neckline are decorated with white silk organza trim which trails down both sides of the gown. Around the waist is a red velvet belt with an oval buckle with crystal rhinestones. The hem of the gown reaches the floor in front and has a longer train in back. Jewelry: I made the earrings from tiny acrylic rhinestones, sterling silver wire and clear glass rhinestones. They are for dolls with pierced ears only. They are drop earrings and have a large rhinestone circle at top, followed by a tiny rhinestone circle and a small teardrop rhinestone. The pieces have all been painted and sealed to give them an antiqued oxidized look. Shoes: The shoes are entirely hand made. Silk dupioni uppers. The vamps have been cut into a "V" and bound with pale blue thread. Below that a small pale blue organza bow is topped with a silver buckle and sea green glass beads. They are lined with the same fabric, and the innersole is also made of the silk. The outer soles and lifts are made of leather in a blue-black color. I sculpt the heel from clay and then duplicate that heel one by one in a cast mold. The heels are covered in matching silk fabric. For the Hair: I created a pinch of flowers, feathers and leaves that are to be worn at the back of the head. I made the little flowers out of pale blue silk, and some tiny sea glass beads are in the center of the flowers. I made the leaves from the same blue silk dupioni that the gown is made out of. Soft gray hackle feathers have been curled by hand and trimmed down to scale. Everything has been bound together for easy insertion into the wig or hair of a doll. This creation was a Limited Edition of 4 -Handcrafted dress form display with a round stained wood base and solid brass portions. The dress form display measures 14" tall by 10" wide. -Certificate of Authenticity: Signed, numbered, dated and given my watermark/seal. -A striped garment box tied with a bow. |
